Import sources

• Special:Import transwiki import| works from the following sources:
  • Multilingual Wikisource
  • the English Wikisource
  • latina vicifons
  • die deutsche Wikisource
  • the Wikimedia Commons
  • the Wikimedia Meta-Wiki
  • the English Wikipedia
  • the English Wiktionary
  • das deutschsprachige Wiktionary
  • Botwiki
  • the English Wikiquote
  • the English Wikinews

Most of these have been tested.

Namespaces

• Transwiki = NS 3010
• Author = NS 3100
• Index = NS 3200
• Page = NS 3210

• Meta namespace (NS 4) was called Doug's Wiki: and then dougswiki: but is now called Project:, dougswiki: remains a valid alias

• No other namespaces currently have aliases

I set the numbers for the custom namespaces really high to avoid any conflicts should I later decide to add Semantic MediaWiki or simply add namespaces that normally aren't used on the same wiki other places. Transwiki does not have a talk space declared.

User rights

• Sysops have extended rights here
• A special user group "Librarians" exists with general rights including delete, import, and upload_by_url
• Confirmed users have very limited editing rights
• Registered users have no rights to edit until they both confirm their e-mail address and send me an e-mail asking for confirmed status
• IPs have no editing rights
• Bots of Sysops, and probably of Librarians, are welcome

If you wonder why the editing restrictions are so tight, look at the name of the wiki - I do not have time to deal with vandals and spam, so I won't

Interwiki links and transclusion

• Scary transclusion is enabled for selected sites
• An interwiki table exists at Special:Interwiki, which also identifies the scary transclusion sites
• The table can be edited from the wiki interface by sysops

File types

Upload of the following file types, in addition to the standard types, is allowed (confirmed users):

• tif, tiff
• pdf
• odt, ods (Open Office)

None of these have been tested, multipage formats will probably have the same problem as DjVu and Paged Tiff Handling and Pdf Handling have not been configured

• Sideloading is enabled in the Local Settings (Librarians and Sysops) but may not be allowed by the server
  • Tested - works File:Sideloadtest.jpg, note that the sideload does not automatically populate with the source!
• Instant Commons is enabled but has not been tested

• • • Works! - Some discussion at mw:Manual:$wgUseInstantCommons that this may have trouble with diacritics, not tested.

• • Doesn't appear to work correctly with a DjVu, viz: File:Word_Book_for_Graded_German_Readers,_Booklets_1-10_(1936).djvu, but interestingly does bypass the server limits on uploads

• • Does work with ProofreadPage, viz: Page:Jenseits_von_Gut_und_Böse_-_1886.jpg (intentionally a redlink)
  • Appears it may work with DjVu once we get past the general problem with DjVu support on this site

Syntax Highlighting is broken and bugzilla has been submitted

• Page titles may be overridden completely using the magic word {{DISPLAYNAME}}
• Search highlighting is turned on
